Before we dive into management and treatment, it’s important to note that there are two forms of AMD: Dry AMD and Wet AMD. The two types of AMD are treated differently, so your eye doctor must perform the necessary tests to determine which form of AMD you have. (To learn more about those tests, visit our previous post in our National AMD & Low Vision Awareness Month series.)
To detect and diagnosis AMD, an eye doctor must assess your vision, as well as the health of your eye and retina, specifically a part of the retina affected by AMD called the macula. Doing so will help your eye doctor understand your condition, your treatment options, and ways to optimize your vision.
February is National AMD & Low Vision Awareness Month. AMD, or Age-Related Macular Degeneration, is the leading cause of vision loss for Americans age 50 and older and is a common cause of a condition called low vision.
