What is Ocular Sarcoidosis | Sarcoidosis Awareness Month

Sarcoidosis is a long-term inflammatory disease that causes the formation of small clumps of cells, which are called granulomas. The granulomas form in the tissues and organs of the body. Granulomas can cause further inflammation and may lead to tissue damage. 

According to the Cleveland Clinic, up to 60 percent of people with sarcoidosis may have eye involvement. Researchers do not fully understand why some people with sarcoidosis develop ocular involvement and others do not.
